Daniel's condition deteriorated rapidly, and he was eventually admitted to the hospital, but tragically, it was too late. An inquest held at East London Coroner's Court in August revealed that Daniel was likely experiencing sepsis during his interactions with medical staff. The coroner noted that Daniel, who was autistic, presented with atypical symptoms of sepsis, and there was a lack of understanding regarding the unique needs of neurodivergent children. The inquest highlighted both individual and systemic failures in Daniel's care, emphasizing the importance of listening to parents' concerns and promptly ordering blood tests, especially in cases of suspected sepsis.Following the inquest, the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust has issued a public apology to Daniel's family and agreed to an undisclosed out-of-court settlement. The Trust has also committed to implementing several measures aimed at preventing similar tragedies, including enhanced training for staff on recognizing sepsis, particularly in children with learning disabilities, and prioritizing open communication with parents and carers. Daniel's mother, Lindita, while accepting the apology and settlement, stressed that they could never truly compensate for the loss of her son.
