Boy George has spoken out about the tragic death of Liam Payne, saying that he wished he had access to therapy before he needed it and that he made cruel comments about the star before he died
Boy George has expressed remorse over his "not very nice" social media remarks about Liam Payne shortly before the latter's unexpected passing, as he pondered on the importance of providing young celebrities with access to preventative therapy to prevent such tragic outcomes. The Culture Club legend, who is familiar with the dangers of addiction after his own struggle with heroin, compared drug use to playing "Russian roulette".
Reflecting on his past, the pop icon considered that having a mentor to navigate the complexities of fame could have helped him avoid some of his well-documented troubles. "I probably wouldn't have done a lot of the things that I did had I had someone to talk to. If I'd had someone to teach me some philosophy, open my mind up about what I was capable of", the Mirror reports.
The feud between George and Liam began on Twitter after the 2013 BRIT Awards when George criticised Liam for not taking a photo with his niece and blamed Liam's manager for the snub. George's expression of sympathy was not universally accepted, leading to a reflective George stating on a podcast: "I care about his family. I watched the dad, heartbreaking. I was quite tearful about it. I actually really felt very sad."
