The Southend Stand development could nearly double the stadium capacity

An upgrade of the Brandywell Stadium in Derry was given the green light by members of the local council's planning committee today.

Members of Derry City and Strabane council's planning committee gave unanimous backing to the redevelopment plans. "There has been a real need to expand the stadium for some time and I welcome today's recommendation of planning approval for the new stand and improved facilities at the Brandywell, enhancing the home of football in our city."

"I am delighted to see these plans progressing well, I want to acknowledge the work of the various teams within Council who have been working closely with Derry City FC and the local community to progress the project. It will be fantastic for the club and a great resource for the local sporting community, and I look forward to seeing the work commence on site.”
