A brave toddler has died after he was born with his organs outside his body, just one day after his mother begged people to register as donors. Zachary Bradford, 3, was born premature at 28 weeks weighing just 2lbs 13oz on October 4, 2021. After battling his whole life for a liver and bowel transplant, he passed away on Thursday in Scotland surrounded by his loved ones. In a heartbroken post, his mother Jade Earaker, 23, said their 'lives will never be the same after his passing'.
She wrote: 'Zachary Logan Bradford, in our hearts forever. After an intense three days in PICU (intensive care), fighting til the very last moment, our boy left this world peacefully in our arms in the evening of 02.01.25. 'I'm struggling to comprehend or find the words for you my baby boy. 'I am beyond broken, my everything has been taken away and the pain that is left feels insufferable. It occurs when a child’s abdomen does not develop fully while in the womb. Early in all pregnancies, the intestine develops inside the umbilical cord and then usually moves inside the abdomen a few weeks later. In gastroschisis, the abdominal wall does not form completely so the intestines develop outside and are open to the air when the child is born.
