He continued: “I’m saying to the Home Secretary that she’s got a big job to do, I know she wants to do it. I think getting on and doing that job is exactly where she needs to be… let’s concentrate on the job and we have, as we say, shareholder conferences, which can be used by senior members of the government to project their message.”
“He’s, as you say, steadied the ship. He’s brought competence and maturity to the job that I think it’s extremely welcome. And I think we owe it to him and we owe it to the Conservative Party.” He said the prime minister has built a “strong team” to govern with “maturity and sense”, and that “now is the time for the team to work with him, to support him, and to project the five priorities as he set out at the beginning of the year – one of which is beating inflation.”
