The former Tyrone boss was the surprise choice to succeed Ciaran Meenagh last September having guided Derry’s arch rivals to three All-Ireland titles in the noughties.
Derry retained the Dr McKenna Cup in January before securing the Division One title with a penalty shootout win over reigning All-Ireland champions Dublin in Croke Park. Derry recovered to seal a quarter-final berth with wins over Westmeath and Mayo, after a penalty shootout, but their season was ended following a five-point defeat by Kerry earlier this month.
