The 19-year-old victim was approached by three males in Whitehead Park off Ainsworth Road last night before a fight then broke out, police said. He was stabbed in the left side of his chest.
Residents reported seeing a large police presence in the area last night, with officers using torches to search the park. Any witnesses, or anyone with information, is being urged to get in touch. "His injuries are not thought to be life threatening or life changing. He is in hospital receiving treatment.
Sergeant John Nestor of Bury CID said: "This was a targeted attack that has left a young man with a serious stabbing injury. We are certain that this is an isolated, targeted attack and that the wider community are not at risk.
