The once-daily tablet works by cutting down the amount of the hormone oestrogen that a patient's body makes by blocking an enzyme called aromatase.This means they can be sold by any manufacturer. Anastrozole was recommended by NICE as a preventative treatment in 2017, but the recommendation didn't have much impact as it depended on clinicians being prepared to prescribe it off-label.
