A University of New England research program will also his investigate the effect flooding has on hatching success for the reptiles.

abc.net.au/news/endangered-bells-turtle-breeding-project-une-northern-nsw/102096298The population of Bell's turtles in the NSW Northern Tablelands is about to get a big boost after researchers incubated 1,500 of them in a lab.

In 2018, 100 hatchlings were released into local rivers and this year, 15 times that number will be released. Researcher Eric Nordberg said the breeding project was about making sure the hatchlings could grow up to breed, instead of ending up in a fox's belly. "Over the last few years we have had extreme weather events including flood. With these turtles laying their eggs in the riverbanks, we're interested to see what impact nests that get flooded has on hatching success".As well as the inundation experiments with the eggs, UNE researchers are also assessing the baby turtles health and development before they are released.

Conservative judge ‘predictably’ shouted down by university studentsConservative judge ‘predictably’ shouted down by university studentsSky News host James Morrow says a conservative, Trump-appointed judge who was asked to speak at Stanford University was “predictably” shouted down by students. Mr Morrow discussed the matter with University of Tennessee College of Law Professor Glenn Reynolds. “He’s … written or joined some controversial opinions in the Fifth Circuit Quarter of Appeals … having to do with trans rights and abortion and things like that,” Professor Reynolds told Mr Morrow. “But he was invited to speak and actually to talk about those and what drove those opinions – the sort of thing that people who want to be successful lawyers should want to learn regardless of what side they’re going to take on these issues. “Instead, there were about a hundred student protesters who came there and shouted him down.”
