several children to have died in the Christchurch terror attacksMany of the 49 victims of the devastating attack were refugees who had fled warzones for a better life in New Zealand; Muslims account for just over 1% of New Zealand’s population.Twelve operating theatres worked through the night on almost 50 wounded people and 11 remain in intensive care.

It’s so hard… to see him just gunned down by someone who didn’t care about anyone or anything.’The first victim was named as grandfather Daoud Nabi, who threw himself in front of another worshipper to save the person’s life.

His son Omar said the family had left Kabul, Afghanistan, for New Zealand in the 1970s and his father spent his life helping refugees.Another victim was named as Naeem Rashid, who was killed trying to wrestle the gun from the shooter.Mr Rashid’s 21-year-old son Talha also lost his life in the mass shooting.
