The Hoops have knocked back an offer of 700 briefs for Ibrox on 3 September and aren't planning on allocating their rivals any for December meeting.
The Hoops boss has always admitted the derby clash has been damaged by the reduced numbers of travelling supporters and the recent total shutouts of away fans. But Rodgers is on board with club chiefs decision to knock back 700 briefs for Ibrox on September 3 amid safety concerns – and the plan to deny Gers punters access for the return clash at Parkhead in December.
Rodgers attempted to side-step the issue for now but he’s previously admitted the derby has been diminished by the ongoing ticket scrap – with Celtic fans seeing their numbers slashed following his previous reign in 2019. He said: “There has been something taken away from the games. Rodgers said: “We just need to see how they are over the next week or two. Cam has a slight hamstring and Reo slight calf. They won’t be ready for this weekend and the surface is obviously too much of a risk. We’ll assess them over the coming week.Rodgers revealed defender Alistair Johnston is on the comeback trail after returning to full training following summer surgery. He said: “It’s brilliant. He’s back in. He’s training with us and he’s ahead of schedule.
“He’s in a really good place physically and up to speed with the game so he’s another consideration for us. Stephen Welsh picked up a little bit of a knock today, which was a shame considering just signing his deal and announcing that.”
