The price of food, and everything, may have been affected by our exit from the EU
UK food inflation stood at 14.9 per cent in the year to July, higher than across the EU, where the average is around 12.5 per cent.
The report says the cost of Brexit to each household now stands at £250 when only considering the impacts on food since December 2019.it was possible to say “fairly concretely” say Brexit has caused some of the food inflation we are seeing in the UK. “It’s not crazy that we could have higher or lower inflation than the EU average if we had remained in the bloc – the differences across the EU27 is massive,” Mr Datta added.
“The common factor is the continued pass through of relatively high energy costs in tight labour markets. Of course, some will blame Brexit for the labour shortages. But this is hard to square withSimilarly, Jefferson Frank, a professor of economics at Royal Holloway, University of London has also questioned the extent of the impact.
