BRITAIN has a “legal obligation” to settle the £39billion Brexit bill, even if the UK leaves without a divorce deal, the European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs Pierre Moscovici said.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has repeatedly suggested that if Britain leaves without a deal, it will no longer owe the divorce bill agreed by his predecessor Theresa May. However, Mr Moscovici said withholding the payment was not an option. Mr Moscovici told Europe 1 radio: “The British will have to settle their [membership] contributions, and their financial contributions in all circumstances, regardless of whether there’s a deal or a no deal.
