A Hollywood A-lister has pulled out of chairing former First Minister Alex Salmond’s new politics show at the Edinburgh festival. Brian Cox will not be attending despite a flurry of publicity unveiling him as the star of the event.
The format of the political debate show will see two teams led by Salmond and Conservative MP David Davis go head-to-head at the Assembly Spiegeltent in George Square. A chair will assume the role of Commons speaker or Presiding Officer, with former Commons Speaker John Bercow initially fulfilling the role.
"Logan Roy is going to impose order in the Spiegeltent”, adding: "You take your life in your hands if you intervene with Bercow in the chair and get out of line, but with Cox in the chair – by God." Despite being cleared, it was admitted in court he had a “sleepy cuddle” with a female civil servant on a bed in Bute House. His trial QC Gordon Jackson said in court: “If in some ways the former first minister had been a better man, I wouldn’t be here, you wouldn’t be here, none of us would be here.
