Brianna's death shocked the nation and led to her killers being jailed for life
The inquest in to the death of Brianna Ghey is due to open today. Listed for three days, the hearing is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding and leading up to Brianna's death., who was transgender, was lured to Culcheth Linear Park and murdered by Scarlett Jenkinson and Eddie Ratcliffe. Both are now serving life sentences.
The inquest is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding Jenkinson's school transfer, which led to her being moved to the same school as Brianna.in the attack, on February 11, 2023. Together, Jenkinson and Ratcliffe had exchanged sickening WhatsApp messages as they planned in minute detail the murder of Brianna.had moved to Brianna’s school in November 2022 after spiking a younger pupil at her former school.
A series of recommendations were made over how agencies handle the moving of vulnerable children between schools in future and how to support the safeguarding of children online. A representative for Warrington Safeguarding Partnerships , which includes Cheshire Constabulary, Warrington Borough Council and NHS Cheshire and Merseyside, said the "learning points in the report must, and will be, shared and embraced locally".
