Rebel Wilson has shed light on the reasons behind the lack of a Bridesmaids sequel, revealing financial disputes that have made a follow-up improbable. During an appearance on Australia's The Kyle and Jackie O Show, Wilson recounted the behind-the-scenes drama surrounding the 2011 hit film. The actress, who played Brynn, Kristen Wiig 's roommate, pointed to the film's unexpected financial success and the resulting tension.
She hinted that writers Annie Mumolo and Kristen Wiig felt shortchanged by the studio, as they were paid the minimum standard rate despite penning a box office smash hit. 'It had a lot of behind-the-scenes drama and a lot to do with the financials because that movie was hugely successful,' Wilson shared. 'And Kristen (Wiig) and Annie (Mumolo) wrote the movie. Yeah. And were paid scale. And, you know, that’s not very much money. It’s basically nothing. And then you know, the movie was a huge hit, and it was, I think, there were some issues.' The film's phenomenal success, grossing over $324 million worldwide, further amplified these issues. It achieved a stellar 89% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, cementing its status as a comedic triumph. Wilson also divulged that she auditioned for a role in the 2022 Marvel series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. However, the part ultimately went to Canadian actress Tatiana Maslany. Despite not landing the role, Wilson's legal background, having earned a Bachelor's of Law degree in 2009, made her a natural fit for the character.
