A section of the Bridgewater Canal in Cheshire collapsed following torrential rain, leading to widespread flooding in nearby fields. The embankment caved in near the village of Little Bollington, resembling a bomb hit, according to an eyewitness. The collapsed section caused the canal water to flow more intensely, flooding fields and even reaching the wall of Dunham Massey Park. Efforts were underway to stop the flow of water using temporary locks.
Shocking pictures show the collapse of a section of the Bridgewater Canal following a night of torrential rain. The canal embankment caved in near the village of Little Bollington, on the outskirts of Dunham Massey Park . Daniel Kaye, from Timperley, was taking his dog for a morning walk around 9am on new year's day when he stumbled upon the aftermath of the collapse. He said the scene looked like 'a bomb had gone off', reports the Manchester Evening News .
' A section of the Bridgewater Canal in Cheshire burst its banks, causing widespread flooding in nearby fields. An eyewitness said: 'The water has flooded all the fields next to it and was stretching to the wall where Dunham Massey Park is. I understand this part of the canal is not part of the Canal and River Trust. I spoke to a guy who was moored up near it and I think it is Peel who owns it.
