Pesticides may effectively deter slugs and snails, but such methods can be seen as cruel. For a kinder approach to preventing sails from munching on plants, one Reddit said: "I used coffee grounds and it worked pretty well for me.
Yet the Royal Horticultural Society remains sceptical about using coffee grounds for pest control, they said: "The evidence for coffee grounds' ability to repel ants and slugs is poor." They extend this doubt to other home remedies like eggshells and grit, reports the Express. Considering non-chemical alternatives, RHS entomologist Hayley Jones advises gardeners to steer clear of slug pellets as "slug pellets have been shown to have negative effects on wildlife in the garden".
To foster a slug-repellent garden, one might invite birds, frogs, toads, hedgehogs, slow worms, and beetles as guests.
