That project was a gamble. Whilst polling suggested that many of the policies proposed by Truss and Kwasi Kwarteng were individually saleable to voters, there was real danger in changing the mood music of the Government so dramatically – especially when more than halfway through a parliament in which the Tories have not delivered much of their 2019 manifesto.
