Noting how the world’s greatest civilizations have excellent sports programs, outgoing Education Secretary Leonor Briones underscored the urgent need for sports to be integrated into the country’s education system.
“We admire the intellectuals, but we adore the athletes, all of us and all Filipinos. It is part of our tradition and therefore important to integrate sports development into our curriculum,” Briones said during the National Academy of Sports Final Inspection of Facilities at Athletics Stadium in New Clark City early this week.
During her message, Briones also noted that sports development is one of the critical components of great civilizations. “These countries have always been marked by massive investment in sports,” she explained. “Realization and recognition that in learning and studying, one does not separate the physical from the intellectual activities of our learners,” she added.
