As part of the revamp, a new skywalk will connect directly from the airport car park at mezzanine level directly to new security areas and departure lounges.
A massive $5 billion overhaul of Brisbane’s domestic airport terminal is now underway, driven by federal government requirements to upgrade Brisbane Airport security by the end of 2025.
The most significant change will be a new mezzanine level connection to the domestic terminal from the walkway leading from the airport carparks, Brisbane Airport Corporation chief executive Gert-Jan de Graaff said. New mezzanine level connecting from carparks to the terminal giving a direct entrance for passengers who have already checked in with carry-on luggage;New departure gate lounges and bus connections;include upgrades to the Domestic Terminal, International Terminal and new Terminal 3.
“Since the pandemic, more people are choosing to drive to the airport instead of catching public transport or ride-share vehicles, meaning at peak times we are close to running out of car parking space,” de Graaff said. All passengers using the new domestic terminal will have upgraded self check-in services linking to the new bag drop-off and collection services. New bathrooms will be built at the domestic terminal.
