Gold Coast Airport has reported record passenger numbers in the last financial year, while Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne airports still had fewer passengers than before the pandemic.The chief executive for Gold Coast Airport said 6.3 million people travelled through the airport last financial year, surpassing previous records by more than 210,000 people.
Brisbane Airport reported passenger numbers at 97 per cent of pre-pandemic levels for domestic flights and 89 per cent for international routes.Economist Dr Angel Zhong from RMIT University said the numbers reflected “changing consumer preferences in spending”, although post-pandemic travellers still injected money into Australia’s tourism industry.
