Department store Myer will not renew its lease in Brisbane’s Queen Street shopping centre that shares its name.
The centre’s most recent major redevelopment was in 2006 and, since then, suburban shopping centres have grown more dominant and in the CBD the retail offering continues to evolve.Australia’s other legacy brand department store, David Jones, has benefited from a new location in QueensPlaza, on the corner of Queen and Edward streets, and high-end retailers have positioned along Edward Street.
In a statement, Myer CEO John King said stores at Indooroopilly, Chermside, Carindale and Mt Gravatt would remain open and Myer Centre staff would be offered “redeployment opportunities”.
