The NHS and councils in Bristol, Somerset and South Gloucestershire are providing guidance on how to manage their health ahead of a drop in temperature.Pete Walker, who goes to the Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust's gardening group, said: "You get to meet other people, talk to other people so that helps as well."
Free 'winter warm packs' containing blankets, gloves and hand warmers will also be given out, alongside offering free classes to help keep people active and social.Mr Walker said: "Just something to do. I like gardening, I wanted to meet people. Didn't know any people in the community. Fresh air and exercise, and mental health as well.
Maria Perrett, community activator for Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust, said: "In the winter especially we need to keep moving."Sometimes the weather looks awful but when you get out and start moving it's about clocking up those steps, coming to meet other people, neighbours and friends, and doing something great for your community."
