A new survey commissioned by Moonpig highlights a thriving spirit of romance in the UK, with Bristol emerging as the nation's most romantic city. The survey also explores how Brits express love and affection in their relationships.
As Valentine's Day approaches, a new survey reveals a strong sense of romance in the UK, with over half of Britons identifying as romantics at heart. Bristol emerges as the UK's most romantic city, according to the report, with 40% of Bristol ians expressing affection daily. Manchester takes second place, with couples sharing PDA an average of four times a week.
The top five most romantic cities also include Newcastle, London, and Birmingham, while Leeds lags behind with only 27% of residents regularly showing affection to their partners. Sarah-Jane Porter, global design and licensing director at Moonpig, the company that commissioned the report, stated, 'Despite the common phrase 'romance is dead,' it's encouraging to know this isn't true.' She emphasized that individuals continue to demonstrate their romantic side in relationships through words, actions, or thoughtful gifts. The majority of adults surveyed believe romance should be a vital element in any relationship. While a quarter prefer spontaneous romantic gestures, over two-thirds feel that a balance of spontaneity and planning is ideal. Common ways people express affection include remembering important dates, bringing home their partner's favorite treats, and giving personalized gifts. A third of respondents claim to do this daily. However, the survey suggests that most value spending quality time together, with 45% naming this as their most cherished romantic gesture. Men are 10% more likely than women to consider this important. Overall, 'quality time' emerges as the top love language, chosen by 36% of respondents. Sarah-Jane Porter further added, 'Romance isn't confined to grand gestures; it's found in everyday moments like shared laughter, handwritten notes, or simply making time for each other amidst our busy lives. Ultimately, it's often the small acts of love and care that create truly meaningful experiences.
