Dominic Raab has condemned the Iranian missile strike on two Iraqi military bases hosting US and coalition forces
The Ministry of Defence in London has since confirmed that there were no British casualties in the missile strike.
US authorities have said casualties are ‘few, if any’, while President Donald Trump took to Twitter to say ‘All is well’.Iranian state television said the rockets were revenge for the US airstrike last week Qasem Soleimani was commander of Iran’s Quds Force Boris Johnson is likely to face questions from MPs on the deepening crisis today as he takes his first Prime Minister’s Questions since winning the General Election.
He then faced criticism for his failure to address the Commons on Tuesday, with Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn accusing him of ‘hiding behind’ Defence Secretary Ben Wallace. However, he chaired a meeting of the National Security Council to discuss the issue, while Wallace said the government are putting in ‘urgent measures’ to protect British nationals in the region.All non-essential personnel have been moved out of Baghdad, and Royal Navy warships and military helicopters are on heightened readiness to assist if needed.
Wallace said the safety and security of UK nationals and interests in the region were of ‘paramount concern’.
