Although most of the Conservatives' policies have proven individually popular, the public believes the party is not running a successful general election campaign

Although most of the Conservatives' policies have proven individually popular, the public believes the party is not running a successful general election campaignThe BMG Research survey found that most of the public think Sir Keir Starmer’s party is running a good election campaign, andin a bid to squeeze Sir Keir’s support and also hold off a threat from Reform UK, which has seen a boost since Nigel Farage returned as party leader.

Although the polls have not moved significantly in recent months, with Labour consistently holding a large lead which now stands at 19 percentage points according to BMG, the public appears to have become increasingly convinced the Tories are unlikely to win. In October, 44 per cent predicted a Labour majority and 17 per cent thought the Tories would be re-elected to a fifth term in power.

Despite Labour’s large polling lead, and the expectation that the party will lead the next government, there appears to be little optimism from the public that Britain will improve significantly with Sir Keir in No 10. This week the Tories, Labour, Lib Dems and Greens are all expected to publish their election manifestos with a full list of the policies they would pursue in government. Mr Sunak is understood to see this as one of the final moments he can make a decisive intervention in the campaign, by setting out a policy agenda which will win back voters who have deserted his party for Labour or Reform.
