Rachel Stallard, a British consultant, is facing a 20-year prison sentence in Thailand after confronting a client who allegedly owes her £30,000. Stallard claims the client, a millionaire, bribed Thai police to fabricate charges against her.
A British consultant, Rachel Stallard from Bournemouth, is facing a potential 20-year prison sentence in Thailand after confronting a client who allegedly owed her £30,000 in unpaid fees . Stallard, a private estates consultant, flew to Thailand to collect the outstanding payment for services rendered. Upon arriving, she claims her client, a millionaire, became agitated by her request for payment despite completing all the agreed-upon work.
Stallard alleges that she was then unjustly thrown into a Thai prison cell with limited access to food and water. She recounts having to bribe a police guard for meager scraps and relying on a colleague in Bangkok who brought her essential supplies like water, chicken burgers, wet wipes, and mosquito spray. Throughout her ordeal, she attempted to reach the UK Embassy but claims their assistance was inadequate and unhelpful. She describes sitting in the cell for days, terrified of her uncertain future, and facing a legal system she perceived as corrupt. Stallard asserts that Thai police were bribed by her client to fabricate charges against her, which she maintains are entirely baseless. She states that she has already been found guilty of two of the seven charges, despite not even being allowed to present her side of the story. The consultant has incurred significant financial losses, including £14,000 in bail, £24,000 in legal fees, and £70,000 to return home, leaving her in a dire financial situation. She now faces a lengthy trial expected to take place in six to eight years.
