Other offers are also available apart from the Green Flex event
British Gas has offered some customers half price on their electricity today . The firm held a 'Green Flex' event between 11am and 1pm but certain conditions had to be met for customers to get the discount - yet other deals are also available.
Firstly, discounts were only applied where weather conditions are either more windy or sunny than usual. This is because such conditions are expected to provide more renewable energy which makes it more available for use. Customers who were eligible to take part were emailed to opt into the event. British Gas said it uses its own forecasts to set event and test the potential savings and impact on the grid the scheme will have. Both new and existing customers are eligible for the green discount which will appear as credit on customers' bills as long as they are in the PeakSave scheme. PeakSave rewards British Gas customers for changing their energy usage habits during times when demand is at its highest or when more renewable electricity is available on the grid.
According to the firm, over £11 million has been paid to more than 600,000 customers taking part in the scheme. The scheme also boasts to have saved roughly 326 tonnes of carbon emissions and moved 11,799 MWh of electricity through its Sunday initiative alone. Customers are given the opportunity to save money each Sunday between 11am and 4pm in a five-hour event.
For the PeakSave Sundays scheme, customers do not need to apply and must only be a British Gas customer with a smart electricity meter. However, to take part in the Green Flex scheme, such as the one taking part today, customers must opt in and have a smart electricity meter.
