Lando Norris' formative F1 experience was watching Lewis Hamilton at Silverstone. Sixteen years after that moment, Norris was the one driving the chrome McLaren on home turf and fighting for podium. And that included beating Hamilton. ✍️ LukeSmithF1
Informed on the radio that Verstappen and Hamilton had taken soft tires, Norris sarcastically responded: “Lovely, yeah. Wonderful man.” His frustration was evident.“Would a soft have made me be under less stress for the first three laps after the safety car? I think absolutely,” Norris said post-race. “I don’t see why we wouldn’t have done it.”
Hamilton tried again the next lap, this time holding back on Wellington and going for a lunge up the inside at Luffield. “I threw it up the inside in the hope, finally, that this is the moment I’m going to make it happen,” said Hamilton. It wasn’t the British national anthem playing. Still, Norris and Hamilton were the star attractions on the podium, enjoying the support of the fans who invaded the start-finish straight after the race. For the first time since 1999, two British drivers were on the podium at the British Grand Prix.
