An unconfirmed photo from the scene shows a body covered over with a white sheet on the beach as a dog lays next to it and multiple groups of people gather nearby.
The elderly husband and wife have been named locally as Rosalyn Foster, 77, and her 76-year-old David John Foster, who arrived on the island of Carriacou on March 8.
Unconfirmed reports suggest David got into difficulty and Rosalyn died trying to save him. David was declared dead at the scene, while Rosalyn died after being rushed to Princess Royal Hospital. Last month, two American tourists died during an apparent yacht hijacking as they made their way to a restaurant on Grenada. The bodies of couple Ralph Hendry and Kathleen Brandel have not been found, but police have classed their deaths as homicides.
The news sent shockwaves across the island, which has a population of just over 6,000. It is the second biggest island in Grenada and is roughly 12 miles long by three miles wide.
