The victim spent almost three weeks in intensive care after the crash
A British cyclist has died following a crash in Majorca. The 55-year-old died in hospital yesterday after spending nearly three weeks in intensive care at Son Espases Hospital, in Palma, the capital of the island. He was knocked off his bike by a car travelling towards Andratx at around 7pm on June 29. He was unconscious on the ground and sustained severe injuries to his head, chest and pelvis. Majorca is a popular destination for both amateur and professional cyclists, reports the Mirror .
The roads on the island are often packed with amateur cycling groups who test themselves on the famous Tramuntana mountains along the west side of the island as well as flats elsewhere. Last September a 45-year-old British cyclist was seriously injured after being hit by a lorry on the island. He fell more than 30ft down an embankment at the side of the road after being run over.
