The incident happened in the early hours of August 12 in the small town of Zurgena in the south-eastern Almeria province.

The victim, who hasn’t been publicly named, was rushed to hospital but he died from severe head injuries days later, on August 19. It’s believed the attacker, a Spaniard, was the victim’s neighbour, and had allegedly got angry with the Brit for walking his dog near his home.
He added: ‘It is now a matter for the courts which has launched an ongoing investigation.’ It is not known if the dead Brit lived permanently in Zurgena or had a holiday home in the area. The town, which has a population of just under 3,000, is located in the Almanzora valley close to the towns of Albox, Huercal-Overa and Los Carasoles. It is a 40 minute drive from the tourist resorts of Mojacar and Vera and about an hour and a half from the provincial capital Almeria.
