British scientist 'died instantly after falling from height' in Greece
A British woman died instantly after falling from a height on the Greek island of Ikaria, a coroner has said.Rescuers told Greece's state ERT TV that she appeared to have slipped and suffered fatal injuries while rock climbing.Coroner Nikos Karakoukis, who travelled to the island from Athens, said the evidence from an initial assessment of the area where her body was found, was"consistent with a fall from a height".
He told reporters she suffered a head injury and died instantly and that her body is to be taken to a morgue in the Greek capital.The Cyprus-based astrophysicist, who was a keen runner, was reported missing by her Cypriot partner on Monday.Police officers block the road towards the area where the body was discovered
He said she went for a run near the hotel they were staying at, where there are trails along steep cliffs. Her disappearance prompted a huge campaign on social media with friends pleading for information on her whereabouts - and volunteers helped police and firefighters in the search.
