However more British men binge drink, a new report says
British women are the world's biggest binge drinkers, a new report says. The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development compared alcohol consumption across 33 countries.
In the UK, 26 per cent of women say they binge drink at least once a month, the highest among females in the world. However, British men were higher, with 45 per cent admitting to consuming six alcoholic drinks in a single session at least once a month. Dr Richard Piper, chief executive of Alcohol Change UK, said: “Alcohol causes too much harm here in the UK. But this is totally avoidable.
The OECD report also shows there are more obese adults in the UK compared with the OECD average. Obesity prevalence was 28 per cent in the UK – higher than the OECD average of 25.7 per cent.
