A radical shake-up of the way electricity is used and priced has been unveiled by the UK Government
Households across the UK are being encouraged to cut their energy bills by altering the times they use appliances like washing machines and dishwashers. The UK Government has announced a significant overhaul in electricity consumption and pricing, offering families the opportunity to reduce expenses by operating power-intensive devices during off-peak hours, such as overnight, when demand and prices drop.
Industry specialists suggest that minor adjustments to daily routines could result in substantial financial savings. For instance, electric vehicle owners could potentially save around £330 annually by charging their cars overnight. Yet, there's an underlying business rationale. By encouraging a shift in energy use away from peak demand periods, the government aims to lessen the reliance on fossil fuel power stations during high consumption spikes – thereby circumventing the need for costly new infrastructure.
