Drivers face new Highway Code rules on countryside roads to tackle 'problem'
Motorists could be facing fresh regulations on rural routes as a new Highway Code for countryside roads is suggested due to rising accident rates. In a concerted effort to curb the worrying increase in road deaths, the new guidelines are being proposed by NFU Mutual, alongside agricultural associations and vehicle safety groups, with an emphasis on reducing fatalities in these areas, reports Birmingham Live.
"Sadly, our analysis shows that, after a few years of decreasing fatalities, rural roads are becoming more deadly again. Over 1,000 people lost their lives on rural roads last year, with thousands more injured. Every road death is one too many, and we believe serious conversations need to happen to make rural roads safer for everyone."
