The local council in the Costa Blanca resort of Calpe has empowered police to confiscate any towels or sunbeds placed on the sands before 9.30am.
A spokesperson for the council explained that the clampdown comes after a surge in complaints about beach space hogging during peak summer months. On X, the spokesperson stated: "This measure prohibits the indiscriminate occupation of the public domain, especially the beach, with items such as chairs, hammocks and parasols at the start of the day."The spokesperson further clarified: "These bad habits make it difficult to clean the beaches.
