The Brook Park City Council unanimously passed a resolution requiring all city-purchased flags to be made in the United States.
Brook Park City Council has approved a resolution mandating that all flags purchased and flown by the city be entirely made in the U.S.BROOK PARK, Ohio — The Brook Park City Council unanimously passed a resolution on Tuesday requiring all flags purchased and flown by the city to be made in the United States.
The measure, inspired by the All-American Flag Act passed by the U.S. Senate in 2011, highlights the importance of domestic flag production. Council members stressed the benefits of supporting the U.S. manufacturing sector, creating jobs, and strengthening the national economy by prioritizing American-made products.
In 2017, the United States imported 10 million American flags, with the vast majority coming from China, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce and U.S. Census Data. The resolution states that by switching to domestically produced flags, Brook Park and other cities can help reduce this dependency while boosting local economies.
