Soap Brookside ran on Channel 4 for 21 years and the Grant family remain some of the most iconic soap characters to ever appear on screen. We take a look at where they are now...
The Grant family was one of the first fictional clans to step onto Brookside when the soap first aired on Channel 4 in 1982.
But there were some TV gold moments along the way many of which included the Grant family, consisting of mum and dad Bobby and Sheila, daughter Karen and sons Barry and Damon.Damon Grant Simon O’Brien starred on Brookside as the popular character of Damon Grant in 1982 until 1987. He was introduced as the youngest son of Bobby and Sheila Grant.The couple were disapproved of, and fled the Close, before starring in their very own spin-off series called Damon and Debbie.
The actress has been very open in discussing how her own experience of sexual assault at 27 influenced some of her acting roles - especially her powerful performance as Sheila when the character was raped. She was then appointed an OBE in the Queen’s 2009 Birthday Honours for her services to drama and charity.
Tomlinson has also appeared as a guest on This Morning, The One Show, Loose Women, Celebrity Chase, Would I Lie To You and Who Do You Think You Are?Tomlinson has also suffered two heart attacks and has campaigned for men to get free checks to combat the rise in heart disease. His character Barry became embroiled in some of Brookside's biggest storylines – from flings to murder and returning for the final ever episode of the soap.
