The restaurant is described as 'fine dining without the faff'

The brothers behind a new Lake District restaurant are celebrating after receiving a Michelin honour just six months after opening. The Schelly in Ambleside has now become the only restaurant in Cumbria to be given a Bib Gourmand title in the new Michelin Guide 2025.

The award was announced at a ceremony revealing the new award winners featured in The Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland 2025, which took place at Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum in Glasgow. This year, no less than 36 restaurants have been newly awarded a Bib Gourmand, showing the wealth of restaurants around the UK and Ireland that are committed to offering affordable, high-quality cooking.

When it comes to The Schelly’s food, Head Chef Dan Hopkins and chef-owner Ryan Blackburn make a point of cooking with fresh seasonal produce, to ensure every dish they produce delivers flavour and quality without the faff, all the while keeping the restaurant’s food innovative and exciting.
