Kicker Dustin Hopkins gets a contract extension after a bang-up year.
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cleveland Browns kicker, Dustin Hopkins, got a contract extension that made him the No. 5 highest paid kicker in the NFL.
Coming over from the Chargers last year, Hopkins did just about everything the Browns needed in terms of kicking. He was accurate and consistent, hitting almost 92% of his field goal attempts. Hopkins was deadly from 50 yards and up, making eight from long range, including a long of 58 yards. Hopkins only drawback is that he pulled a hamstring trying to tackle the ball carrier on a return and missed the last two games of the season, plus the playoff game.
Maybe adding a no tackling clause in his contract would help him avoid thinking like a linebacker when he kicks off and let him live to kick another day, especially considering the new kickoff rules taking effect this season.
