Starting quarterback Deshaun Watson has been ruled out once again as Thompson-Robinson, Jameis Winston and Tyler Huntley will hold down the QB duties. DTR delivered a strong sample last week, finishing with 134 yards on 14 of 18 passing. Huntley is expected to close out today’s game. Working against Brian Flores’ 3-4 base defense and often confusing multiple fronts, the Browns had communication issues and protection problems, which made it difficult at times for Watson to operate efficiently.
On Thursday, Watson got off to a rough start in 7-on-7 red zone drills, with linebacker Ivan Pace Jr. grabbing a pick six on the first snap — Watson’s only interception of the two days. But he quickly settled in, throwing TD passes on four of his next five attempts. It didn’t help matters that Watson lost Njoku and Cooper to minor injuries on Thursday, with Njoku taking only one more rep after coming up slowly after a catch from Watson in 1-on-1 drills on the left side of the end zone.
