The Olympic Games has always specialized in pageantry, and Paris is in the final phases of turning itself into a Summer Olympics venue. Instead of walking into a stadium during the opening ceremony, athletes from around the world will float into the City of Light down the Seine River before competing in the shadow of notable landmarks.
Jin, the oldest member of K-pop supergroup BTS, will be an Olympic torchbearer at the Paris games after recently completing his mandatory military service. The 31-year-old singer is expected to represent South Korea in the torch relay in hopes of spreading the message of “harmony” and “peace,” according to a statement. He finished his 18-month military service last month. Jin along with the other torchbearers are scheduled to go across various historic sites of the host country.
His other group members — comprised of Jung Kook, V, Jimin, Suga, RM and J-Hope — are currently serving their military duties. Jin was discharged from military duty on June 12 and greeted by several of his group members. RM played the saxophone while V, J-Hope, Jimin and Jung Kook greeted and hugged the eldest BTS members. The singer then went live for about 20 minutes on Weverse, recounting his experience in the military and reading messages from friends and fans and friends.
