The redevelopment of the 122-year-old Younghusband site in Melbourne’s inner west will be a fringe location with plenty of character outside the CBD.

The project will make good use of a laneway – ever-popular among Melburnians – that runs between the two buildings, bringing in food and beverage outlets and a village-style feel, Mr Mason said. The project, just four kilometres from the CBD, hopes to tap interest from major corporates along with smaller tech and creative firms for a fringe location with plenty of character.
Along with the turn towards funky locations outside the CBD for at least some firms, the development partners hope to catch a tailwind from a state government plan to foster urban renewal across the surrounding Arden and Macaulay precincts. One major catalyst for that is already underway through Designing the redevelopment is architecture firm Woods Bagot, whose principal Peter Miglis said the first stage would restore the distinctive red brick exteriors of the warehouses and their hipped roofs, with minimal changes to facades.
