Bulgari's Serpenti motif, a design element used in various forms since 1948, takes center stage in the exhibition 'Serpenti Infinito'. Launched in 2023, marking the 75th anniversary of Bulgari's Serpenti, the traveling exhibition delves into the rich history and evolution of this iconic symbol.The exhibition features 28 artworks by 19 Chinese and international artists, including 11 specially created for the occasion.
These pieces are displayed alongside a curated selection of Bulgari's Serpenti creations, encompassing watches and jewelry from the Bulgari Heritage collection, as well as unreleased, one-of-a-kind pieces. 'Serpenti Infinito' unfolds in three distinct chapters. The first, 'Crafting Serpents in History', explores the mythology of the snake, particularly its significance in Chinese culture as a symbol of good luck, wealth, and vitality. These auspicious meanings have inspired the Serpenti collection since Bulgari introduced its first snake-themed jewelry-watch in 1948. The second chapter, 'Snakes in the Arts', examines the serpent's representation in art, where it symbolizes wisdom, protection, and power. The exhibition's concluding chapter, 'Contemporary Transformations', contemplates the snake's enduring presence across cultures, time periods, and geographical locations, and its relevance for the future. This section explores contemporary interpretations of the serpent, featuring works such as Refik Anadol's 'data sculptures' that utilize machine learning and Utopic Arabia's creations, unveiled exclusively for the exhibition.The exhibition showcases Bulgari's mastery in transforming timeless emblems into wearable art. Highlights include the Serpenti Infinito necklace, bracelet, and brooch, adorned with onyx, buff-top rubies, and pavé diamonds. The Serpenti Rubellite Crown necklace features a striking 140.53-carat rubellite at its heart, held by a pavé-set prong. The Serpenti Emerald Nimbus necklace in white gold showcases a magnificent 12.73-carat emerald from Zambia.
