Shamsul Islam, who targeted bars and restaurants, left a trail of forensic evidence for police to find
Shamsul Islam - shown in CCTV footage crawling on his stomach along floors and jumping over bars to steal cash from tills - left a trail of forensic clues that led to his downfall. At one venue, a takeaway, he left footprints and fingerprints for police to find and link to him.
Islam, 40, of no fixed abode, was described by police in Bury as a 'career criminal' as he began a four-year prison sentence for burglary. He was convicted after a trial at Manchester's Minshull Street Crown Court last week and has now been sentenced. On September 1, Islam smashed a ground floor window at a hair and beauty salon on Radcliffe New Road, but ran away after being disturbed.
