Stephen Bunting and Luke Woodhouse secured their spots in the World Darts Championship's last 16 after thrilling matches. Damon Heta celebrated with a nine-darter but ultimately fell to Woodhouse.
Stephen Bunting advanced to the fourth round of the World Darts Championship after a dramatic day that included a nine-darter from Damon Heta . Bunting, considered a dark horse in the tournament, particularly with half of the original 32 seeds already eliminated, defeated Latvia's Madars Razma 4-1 despite not playing at his best. The former Lakeside champion, who reached the semi-finals at Alexandra Palace in 2021, will now face Luke Woodhouse , who staged a remarkable comeback to beat Heta 4-3.
The first match after the short Christmas break saw Heta land the second perfect leg of the tournament before ultimately losing 4-3 to Luke Woodhouse. Heta came close to a nine-darter in his first match but sent the Ally Pally crowd into a frenzy during the second set, and Woodhouse also celebrated wildly in a special moment. Dutchman Christian Kist achieved the first perfect leg in the opening round last week and also lost his match. The record for the most nine-darters at the World Championship is three in 2022, so one more would equal that feat. Heta held a 3-1 lead but momentum quickly shifted to Woodhouse who won nine legs in a row to reach the last 16 for the first time in his career. 'Me and Damon are good friends - we play golf and practice together,' Woodhouse told Sky Sports Darts
