Burger King returning to old site in seaside town as plans for drive thru unveiled
The American franchise set to take over the former Frankie and Benny's site on Central Drive which has sat empty for more than two years. The unit has previously been occupied by Burger King and has been empty since Frankie and Benny's closed down in July 2020.
Under plans submitted to Lancaster City Council, Burger King says it wants to restore the drive through area it once had there by knocking down newer extensions. It also say the existing store in the Arndale Centre will close down once the new site is open.Around 20 jobs were lost when Frankie and Benny's closed down. It was one of more than 100 of the company's restaurants to close down as Covid closures added to the business's woes.
"The improvement to the viability of the existing restaurant operation is supported by planning policy across the Development Plan." Lancaster City Council has owns the building since 2020.
