Burger King has brought back its popular Memphis BBQ range, and Social News reporter Lucy Marshall put it to the test. She ordered the Memphis BBQ King Chicken, Gourmet Fries, and the Memphis BBQ King Double Meal to see if they lived up to the hype.
Many fast food giants release limited edition products to keep customers interested. Some have become absolute favourites – like Starbucks' Pumpkin Spiced Latte or Greggs' Festive Bake. But has Burger King managed to achieve similar results with its Memphis BBQ range? On January 7, the American-inspired goodies returned to Burger King stores. To see what all the fuss was about, Social News reporter Lucy Marshall checked to see if the menu items are worth the hype.
Lucy ordered the Memphis BBQ King double meal with large fries, as well as a Fanta Orange and a BBQ King Chicken Meal. And it turns out, one burger in particular really tantalised her taste-buds. So here's what she had to say... Memphis BBQ King Chicken – £7.39 The sandwich is filling but not too big - perfect for lunch time or those wanting a quick bite. The bread was super soft and the chicken and cheese was good. The first bite reminded me of a classic Chicken Royale, but then the BBQ flavour came through. It was nice and powerfully smoky, plus the onion ring inside was delicious. While the treat was tasty, it doesn't compare to some other Burger King items and I wouldn't run back specifically for the Memphis Chicken. Lucy's verdict: 8/10. Gourmet Fries – £4.99 This menu item is described as 'classic golden fries drizzled with toasted onion and cheese sauces, topped with pink pickled onions and bacon'. Think loaded fries with a twist. They didn't look very nice when they arrived – with the bright yellow cheese clashing a little with the red onions and bacon on top. However, the chips tasted better than they looked! I went back in for more following my first bite, but for me it could do with a little more flavour. Plus, the topping combination didn't feel like it blended together. Minus the onions I think it could have worked better. I wouldn't rush to order these again – especially as they're pretty pricy for fast food fries. Lucy's verdict: 4/10. Memphis BBQ King Double Meal – £8.50 Last but definitely not least, was this double meal that left me drooling. The beef patties were so juicy and the addition of the cheese, bacon and an onion ring created a perfect mix of flavours which leaves you craving more. It's greasy, gorgeous and packed with BBQ flavour. You could say I am biased as BBQ is my favourite, but if I had to describe my perfect burger and what toppings I would use, the Memphis is the perfect match. I'd recommend getting it in store instead of out for delivery though, as mine arrived a bit lukewarm. Lucy's verdict: 9/10
